Here is the thing about IPX4 rated heaters: most companies spend all their time worrying about the outer shell. They make sure the chassis looks solid, but then they completely ignore where the power cord actually enters the unit. In the world of infrared heating, that little junction—where the wire meets the element—is where everything usually falls apart. If that seal isn’t tight, moisture just creeps in. And once water hits a hot lead? You’re looking at rapid oxidation and a short circuit. It’s a recipe for disaster. Why they keep failing Most heaters use basic glues or loose rubber gaskets. They seem fine at first, but they can’t handle the heat. Think about it: every time you turn the heater on and off, the materials expand and contract. It’s like the heater is “breathing.” That movement literally sucks moisture and dust straight into the electrical terminals. Over time, the insulation gets brittle and cracks. Then, the wire burns out. Simple as that. How we do it differently We stopped using those cheap rubber grommets a long time ago. Instead, we use a potting process with high-temperature silicone resins. Rather than just sitting there, this resin chemically bonds to both the quartz tube and the wire jacket. It creates one solid barrier. It keeps splashes out, but it’s still flexible enough that the wires won’t pull away from the seal when you move them. You can’t just buy this kind of seal off a shelf. It takes a very specific temperature and pressure during curing to make sure there are zero air bubbles. Even one tiny pocket of air can act like a straw, pulling moisture right into the heart of the heater. A quick heads-up for installation Since this seal is so tight, the wire is a bit more rigid. Just be careful not to bend the cables too sharply when you’re installing them, or you might put too much stress on the internal connection. Give yourself a generous loop of extra wire. And if you’re putting these in a spot with a lot of vibration, make sure your mounting brackets are doing the heavy lifting so the seal doesn’t have to take the hit.
